Signs for shops, offices and buildings
Our signs are carved: cut on our CNC machine in Centreville, then sanded and finished by hand, using solid hardwood or HDU.
Two ways to letter a sign
Carved in. The letters are cut into the board, dyed if necessary, and filled with epoxy or paint. The Ash + Ember sign is hard maple with black epoxy.
Raised. The background is routed away so the letters stand proud and their faces are painted. The 103 Lawyers Row directory proposed for a building has gold letters on a black background.
Materials for outside
For a sign that lives outdoors we use sapele or white oak, both of which stand up to the weather, or HDU, a dense sign board that takes fine detail and doesn't move with the seasons the way wood can. Indoors, anything on our rack will do.
See it on your building first
Send us a photo of where the sign will go, and we will draw it in place, so you can judge the size, the lettering and the colors on your own wall before anything is cut. Here is our drawing for Studio Taj, an art gallery.
Directories and buildings with several tenants
A directory is one sign with a line for every suite: the building's name at the top, the suite numbers down one side, and the businesses beside them, all in one lettering style so it reads as one sign.
Getting it to you
You can pick your sign up from our shop in Centreville by arrangement, or we can ship it. Tell us where it is going — a wall, brackets or posts — and we will work out the mounting with you.
Tell us about yours
Ask us for a quote and tell us where the sign will go, roughly how big it should be, and what it needs to say. A photo of the spot helps more than anything. Or look through what we have made first.
