About Scott & Emily Designs
We are a two-person shop on Maryland's Eastern Shore, carving signs, house numbers and landscapes from hardwood we mill ourselves.
Hi! We're Emily and Scott
Most of what we make starts as rough lumber — hard maple, walnut, sapele, white oak, cherry and sycamore, with Spanish cedar for outdoor work and wenge for dark inlay — milled down in our own shop rather than bought as ready-made panel. We can order mahogany, teak, iroko, butternut or holly when a piece asks for one. Then it gets carved: family names, house numbers, logos, landscapes. For signs that have to live outside, we also work in HDU, a dense sign board that takes fine detail and doesn't move with the weather the way wood can.
How a piece is made
Every design is cut on our CNC machine so we can get the geometry exactly right for the piece. Then it comes off the machine and is sanded by hand. After that it is painted or filled with epoxy depending on the design.
Our landscapes
The carved landscapes are reminiscent of our time in West Virginia and our travels along the east and west coasts: forests, mountains, water, and a sun sitting somewhere between them.
Come and have a go
We love creating beautiful things with purpose and hope each piece brings warmth, joy and inspiration.
You can design your own piece and see the price as you go, look through what we've made, or tell us what you have in mind.
